After deciding on the pieces I wanted to have manufactured (see the previous post: Clothing for Tropical and Rainforest Environments), it was time to get the manufacturing process rolling. I already had a potential garment manufacturer in mind for the job, yes you probably already guessed it - the one that already produces the leech socks. I am very satisfied with their work and it is convenient to have everything made at the same place. The fact that this company is based in Bali is not such a terrible prospect either!
A lovely lady runs this company and I discussed my ideas with her. We decided that it was best for me to come to Bali (no complaints here!). I had not visited the factory yet and wanted to see the working conditions with my own eyes. I find it very important that the suppliers I work with have good ethical standards. So I booked my tickets and off I went.
Once I had approved of the working conditions (all good!), we started with the production of the samples: one sample of the cotton travel/hiking pants and one sample of the cotton long-sleeve shirt. So many decisions had to be made in such a short period of time, that it felt like my head was going to explode. My days consisted of picking fabrics, colours, buttons, drawstrings, zippers and what not. Faced with thousands of options I think my head did explode at multiple points. But it all paid off and in the end I left Bali with samples I was 100% satisfied with.
I placed the order and now it was only a matter of letting the countdown begin. The stock is expected to arrive at the beginning of June 2015 - exciting times ahead! Not long until you can start your tropical adventure fully prepared!
