Two years ago, I was preparing for a trip to the jungles of Borneo. While reading through my travel guide, the word ‘leech’ kept popping up everywhere: “be prepared to donate blood to the rainforest”, “infested by leeches”, “leeches coming from every direction”. It kept getting worse and worse.
Since I was not planning to donate blood to this not-so-worthy cause the best solution seemed to buy leech socks. These over-sized socks are made of a tightly knit fabric and are worn over your trousers. They prevent leeches from crawling into your shoe and up your trousers. Give me these socks–please! The great disappointment came when I found out that I could not get these socks in Australia. This unmet need triggered the entrepreneur in me and I started having these socks manufactured here to prevent further loss of Australian blood on rainforest terrain.
Fast forward to the present, here I am taking things a bit further.
No worries, I am not planning to develop a whole line of fancy leech socks. Curious what I am up to? In the next post I will tell you all about the new brand Palm & Tiger!
